What you get is a D-size converter and a Hybrio AA rechargeable battery that fits inside making it into a D-size battery. So you don't need a special battery charger that takes D-size batteries, you can use your existing AA / AAA battery charger.
The converter and AA battery is also that much lighter than the D-size battery so you'll be saving on weight as well.
